MALT serves ultimatum to RD department

Alleges non-functioning of BDO in Mangkolemba for more than three years

Mokokchung, July 5 (MExN): The Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (MALT) has highlighted the plight regarding the non-functioning of the Block Development Office in Mangkolemba for more than three years. The MALT has requested the Director, Department of Rural Development to take disciplinary action against continuous absence of BDO and staff.

While stating that Mangkolemba being one of the largest Sub-Division in Nagaland covering three ranges of Jangpetkong, Japukong and Tsurangkong with 56 villages, MALT Media Cell in an appeal to the RD said the role and duty of the Block Development Officer and the staff becomes very vital.

“However, the BDO office is completely non-functional since the joining of Imtilepden Ao, BDO Mangkolemba on September 16, 2013 to till date,” alleged MALT and added, “This has given rise to many loop holes and grievances for the people of Mangkolemba sub division.”

The MALT since its inception in 2013 has visited the BDO office time and again and has submitted report to various Addl. Deputy Commissioners. The MALT has visited the BDO office two times even in 2016; on March 30 and June 10, 2016. “To our great dismay and just like on previous occasions, the office was found empty with no staff and officer,” stated the Media Cell.

Consequently, MALT issued a press release on 13 June 2016 in the local print media about the absence of the BDO. Yet, till date, there is no steps being initiated by the concern department against the erring officer and the staff.

Therefore, MALT questions the seriousness of the Director of the RD department in regard to dealing with disobedient, irresponsible and non performing officers and staff. The MALT cannot comprehend as to how any department or office can run/function with zero attendance, leaving aside about the question of delivering service to the public.

Hence, the MALT serves an ultimatum to the Director, RD department with the following demands to be met on or before July 31, 2016 to take disciplinary action against the erring BDO and his staff, to resume complete functioning of the BDO office in Mangkolemba, a new BDO be deployed in Mangkolemba as “we have lost faith in Imtilepden Ao, the present incumbent and his sincerity towards his profession and the general public. We also question his capacity to deliver service.”

Further, the MALT said that “it will take any failure from the concern department as turning a blind eye to Mangkolemba sub division and we will be compelled to take up radical steps as our fight against corruption.”
