One man was apprehended for allegedly raping a 3 year-old girl. The incident was reported from Mokokchung district’s Saring village.
Police sources informed that the alleged rape occurred on the evening of August 10 and the accused was apprehended by the villagers, to be later handed over to the police. As per the FIR filed by the victim’s parent at the Longchem Police Station, the incident came to light after the victim complained of pain.
The accused, indentified as Moakaba Aier, in his 30s, was subsequently apprehended by the villagers and subsequently taken into custody by the police. The police were informed through the Childline.
He was said to be a member of a Naga Political Group but it was still to be officially confirmed. The Mokokchung police said that it will issue an official statement on the status of the case on August 12, after completion of preliminary inquiry.
The victim was initially examined by the village Community Health Officer and forwarded to district headquarters for further medical examination.
The accused, in an alleged confession to the village authority before he was handed over to the police, admitted to sexually assaulting the 3 year-old victim.
