Peren police, on May 2, arrested one man in connection with an alleged rape of a minor girl. As per the police, the arrest was affected based on an FIR filed at the Women Police Station, Jalukie, on May 1, pertaining “to the rape of a victim by close relative.”
Not much information was disclosed besides stating that the accused was arrested the next day from Zunheboto. “After consistent effort with the help of local intelligence and technical surveillance, the accused was arrested from Zunheboto district...” stated a press release issued by the Superintendent of Police, Peren. It called for respecting the privacy of the victim and family, while stating that investigation was underway to gather and ascertain evidences. The case was registered under section 376 (3) of the Indian Penal Code together with section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The identity of the accused was not disclosed. As per other sources, the accused was said to be an ex-serviceman and a resident of Jalukie. The victim, a 13 year-old, was allegedly sexually abused over a period of time. The complaint was filed by the victim’s parents.
