Man dies of suspected electrocution in Kiusam Town

Kiusam, October 8 (MExN): A man reportedly died of electrocution at Hokishe-yam-vong, Kiusam Town under Kiphire District on October 7 around 2:00 pm.

According to a press release received from local sources, the deceased has been identified as Tsangli, a resident of Kiusam Town originally from Pokphur Village. The deceased is survived by his wife and five children, three of whom are currently studying in Classes 5, 2, and 1.

The incident allegedly occurred when he came into contact with a guy-anchor nut that was reportedly touching a live primary wire carrying high voltage power supply to five villages.

As per the release based on  family account, the deceased had gone in the afternoon to collect Allium tricoccum (commonly known as ramp), a medicinal plant, but did not return home.

Eventually, wife alerted neighbours and the found his charred body near the area where the incident occurred. 

The release stated that a stretch of about 20 feet of surrounding scrubland was burned during the incident. 

Local residents were also quoted as saying that they had occasionally noticed sparks from the electric post in the area over the past few months and alleged that the issue might have resulted from inadequate inspection or maintenance. 

The matter has reportedly been brought to the attention of the Electrical and Police Departments.

The locals have appealed to the concerned department to conduct regular inspections of electric lines, equipment, and poles to prevent similar incidents in the future, the release added.  The cause of death could not be independently confirmed by this newspaper at the time of filing this report.
