One man was arrested by the Mokokchung police on charges of sexually abusing minors. According to the Mokokchung Police, the accused was arrested on July 1 based on a complaint lodged by the parents of two children, who were allegedly sodomised.
A Mokokchung police official said that the victims recently disclosed to their parents following which the parents filed a police complaint on July 1. Based on the complaint, medical examination was conducted and a case registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was arrested on the intervening night of July 1 and 2.
As per the complaint, the victims were reportedly sexually exploited over an unspecified period of time.
The identity of the accused was not revealed by the police citing it would compromise the identity of the victims as well, while only disclosing that he was a retired government official in his 60s.
While stating that the police was receiving cooperation of the civil society, the Mokokchung police official added, “We are making sure that proper investigation is on.”
