Man linked to SBI theft in Dimapur police custody

One man linked to the April 10 theft at the State Bank of India Dimapur main branch is in police custody. The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested by the Assam Police in Sivasagar on May 4. As per reports, he was caught while trying to steal cash at a bank in Sivasagar using similar modus operandi as was seen at the SBI Dimapur.  

The Dimapur police when contacted said that he was the same man seen in the SBI Dimapur CCTV footage. On April 10, the SBI Dimapur main branch had lodged an FIR after a theft at one of its cash counters during which Rs. 14 lakh was stolen.  

He was brought to Dimapur from Sivasagar by a Dimapur police team on May 13 and placed in police remand for interrogation. Police suspect the involvement of more accomplices. Following the man’s arrest on May 4, the Sivasagar police was reported to have launched a search operation looking for accomplices. The Dimapur police said that he will be handed back to the Sivasagar police after completing the remand period.
