Man posing as lineman held for trying to replace energy meter seal

Power Dept issues advisory for bulk consumers with own distribution transformers

DIMAPUR, MAY 9 (MExN): One person, posing as a lineman of the Power Department, was caught trying to extort money from a consumer and replace the seal of an energy meter illegally at West Yard, Dimapur on May 9.

A press release from Er Y Akito Sema, Executive Engineer, Dimapur Electrical Division informed that the accused was caught and handed over to the Sub-Urban Police Station after filing an FIR.

The department informed electricity consumers, especially the bulk consumers (Consumers with their own Distribution Transformers) that for the past few weeks some miscreants are stealing the energy meters, cut – out/Kit-Kat and cutting off the Copper wire.

Consumers of all categories have been advised to secure their energy meters and all other electrical equipments in their premises by way of fencing it properly or customize an enclosure for the energy meters since the department will not bear the cost of replacements for the energy meters, copper wire or cut – out/Kit-Kat.

It further asked consumers to insist on the Government ID card or take note, that any field workers visiting their premises or equipments should be in their uniform, otherwise they should not be allowed to touch or enter the premises which  is tantamount to unauthorized/illegal personnel. The consumers have also been advised to immediately report to the concerned Sub-Divisional Officers or hand over the culprit to the Police.

Meanwhile it cautioned department employees under Dimapur Electrical Division not to involve in such cases. “If any employees are found or caught involving in such illegal activities, severe action without further notice will be initiated,” it said.
