Kaka D. Iralu But, have we Nagas gotten so possessed with accumulating our bread that we have even stopped bothering about what we are eating. Have we indeed become so obsessed with procuring bread that we have stopped thinking about the exorbitant prices at which we are buying them and the measures we are adopting for its preservation? Have we gotten so gluttonous that we have stopped bothering even if our food is laced with formalin and carbide? Have we indeed become so obsessed and possessed with accumulation of food that we no longer care for the “moth and rust” that is eating away the very foundations and structures of our society? The word of God of course did not say that man can live by spirit alone and does not need bread for his sustenance and survival. It is also true that earning bread and butter for a family is a full time job for any parent. But what the Bible clearly states is that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. This means that “Bread” (which is also a symbol of wealth) alone will not be sufficient for the health and wellbeing of a family or a society. On the contrary, the main emphasis here is “the words of God” that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. Now, these words of God are not just some pious words uttered here and there but “all his words” of commandments that binds us all to him. That brings us to the question of what these words of God are. And here, the Bible declares that “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Tm.3:16). The scriptures also tell us that: “In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the word was God.” (Jn. 1:1) It further tells us that these words are the truth and that even if the heavens and earth passes away, his words will not never pass away (Jn. 17:17; Mat. 24:35). From the above descriptions of God’s words, we realize that by the term, “God’s words,” the Bible is not talking about just spiritual words addressed to our spirits and souls but words addressed to our bodies and social lives on earth. This means that bread alone is not sufficient for our lives on earth. We can therefore ask the questions: Has God spoken anything about social justice or economic justice or about ecology or politics etc? The Bible has of course spoken about all these other dimensions of our lives. But our Churches seem to be speaking and addressing only about the spirit and soul aspects of our beings. As a result, our political as well as our economic lives are in shambles. In the political field, there are so many factions and political parties that do not seem to agree on any political principle. They all seem to be obsessed in fighting only for political power and positions. In the economic field, there is no economic justice except economic hoarding by those in political power. How then can the general public survive in such a situation? The Only Solution Would Be To Turn To The Bible And Understand And Practice All The Words That Have Proceeded From The Mouth Of God.
