A man was allegedly murdered last night on the outskirts of Imphal following which the police have arrested an accused couple.
Chingakham Panchom, 40, was found stabbed to death in his courtyard at Andro Khoibu Shantipur under Imphal East around 10 pm yesterday, according to police reports.
Yumkhaibam Kulachandra and his wife Y Tejbati Devi have been charged with murder in the slaying of Chingakham Panchom and that a case has been registered at Andro Police Station over the murder and it has started taking up legal action against the couple.
The deceased is stated to be the second husband of Y Tejbati Devi.
The wife of a restaurant owner and two customers were injured when unidentified men opened fire on them inside the restaurant at Khurai Angom Leikai in the district yesterday.
The incident happened at Ningthibi Restaurant around 11:30 am. The restaurant is owned by one Laishram Senapati Singh.
Sources said the attack was carried out by three armed youths who came on a Honda Activa scooter. The unknown gunmen first attacked a youth who was sitting with a girl who was also shot at and then they attacked the wife of the restaurant owner inside the restaurant.
Laishram Romita Devi, 37, wife of the restaurant owner, received three bullet injuries in her abdomen in the gun attack while Yumnam Suraj, 25, and his companion, a 17-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries.
Romita is undergoing treatment in critical condition at Raj Medicity here since the incident. No group has claimed responsibility.
