Mandatory biometric updates required for Aadhaar

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): In a recent update, the Commissioner & Registrar Aadhaar has clarified the requirements for biometric updates under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) guidelines.

According to UIDAI, Aadhaar can be issued to individuals of any age, including newborns. To enroll a child aged 0-5 years, parents need to provide their Aadhaar number along with the child’s birth certificate. The child’s photograph will be taken at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, but no other biometric data, such as fingerprints or iris scans, will be collected at this stage. Enrolment Centres can be found at DC/ADC/SDO (C) Offices, post offices, and banks, among other locations.

Once a child reaches the age of 5, and again at 15 years, they must undergo Mandatory Biometric Updates, which include capturing photographs, fingerprints, and iris scans. These updates are free of charge if completed between the ages of 5-7 and 15-17 years. No additional documents are needed for these updates, which must be carried out at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

Additionally, it is recommended that school children link their mobile numbers to their Aadhaar for easier access to online services, including exam registrations like NEET and CUET. Updating a mobile number in Aadhaar also requires no documents and can be done at any nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
