KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, has issued a notification mandating all Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) to register on the NGO Darpan Portal, which is maintained by NITI Aayog. The registration is required for NPOs seeking grants from Central or State Government Ministries/Departments, operating bank accounts, renewing their Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) status, or applying for exemptions under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act.
This directive follows the Office Memorandum issued by the Planning & Transformation Department, and the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Amendment Rules, 2023.
Ministries and departments of the Central Government have made the Darpan ID mandatory to reduce fraud. Therefore, all NPOs and societies registered under the Societies Registration (Nagaland Third Amendment) Act, 2008, are required to obtain a Unique Identity Number (UIN) from the NGO Darpan Portal to avoid being blacklisted and have their registration canceled for non-compliance.
