
Changtongya, October 25 (DIPR): Mangkonang Festival was held at Ain Hemtu Resort in Changtongya on October 20 and 21, organized by Sub-Divisional Department Co-Ordination Forum Changtongya (SDDCF).
Chumlamo Humtsoe, SDO (Civil), Changtongya was the chief guest on the inaugural day of the festival. He said that the festival is celebrated to bring unity, better relationship and brotherhood among all the villages under the sub-division. He maintained that by observing the festival, young generation would be enriched with “our” rich culture and tradition, adding that the festival also aims to expose young people’s talents in the field of music by giving them a platform.
The purpose of celebrating the festival, he added, is also to promote the sub-division as a tourist spot. As the venue is also located along National Highway 2, he said “we should take full advantage.” He further informed that the festival will be held yearly and encouraged all the people to be good ambassadors for the success of the festival in the years to come. The programme, chaired by Chubakokla Longkumer, also had short speech by Village Council Chairman of Changtongya. Highlights of the inaugural day included presentations by Watsu Unit, Changtongya, Christian Standard Higher Secondary School, Changtongya and Government Middle School, Akhoya.
Other highlights during the festival included music performance by X-Troopers from Changtongya, Ajungla 2014 Naga Idol finalist and special appearance by Purnuker from Dimapur on the first day.
On the second day, Mangkonang Festival live concert was performed by D.G.P band Kohima and Fusion band from Mokokchung.
Various stalls were opened at the venue during the festival by Akhoya Students’ Union, Changtongya Yimsen Students’ Union, Children Carnival by Changtongya Students’ Union, Handicraft items by Ao Students’ Union Changtongya Town and Tambola by Veteran Football Club Changtongya Town.
