Manipur: ADC Churachandpur election on Nov 5

Newmai News Network Imphal | October 28   The All Tribal Rights’ Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) said today that Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, High Court of Manipur, had passed an order and disposed off the W.P.(C) No. 832 of 2018 on October 25, 2018 directing the State Government of Manipur for conduct of election of the chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Churachandpur on November 5, 2018 "without fail".   The ATRPFM then said that it “strongly believes” that the State Government of Manipur will comply with the order passed by the High Court and conduct the election of the chairman of ADC, "without fail" on the day fixed by the Court.   “As per rules and practice and as mandated by the Constitution, the election for the post of Chairman or Chief Minister, the State Government cannot keep on halting indefinitely with regard to the election. The tribal rights body said that such elections should be held within a reasonable period of time. “But in case of ADC chairman, election could not be conducted even after the lapse of more than three months,” it pointed out.   “We strongly demanded that the election for the post of chairman, ADC, Churachandpur be held on November 5, 2018 as per direction of the Hon’ble Court without fail”, it demanded. The ATRPFM then cautioned that no individual, minister or group of people “shall disturb or act contrary to the Court order in the best public interest”.   On October 23, the ATRPFM had threatened to resort to “total shut down” of Churachandpur district if the State Government fails to address the issue at the earliest.
