On the eve of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Manipur strong security measure have been taken up by the Manipur state government, as several militant organizations have announced to boycott the President’s visit to the state. Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to visit Imphal on April 29 to inaugurate the 14th Convocation of Manipur University at the Centenary Hall of the varsity. The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of several militant outfits including KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF and UNLF, has announced a 12-hour state-wide bandh in Manipur state on April 29. The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCPM) has also informed that it will boycott the President of India’s visit to Manipur on April 29 by calling a bandh. The CorCom bandh begins from 6 am, while MCPM bandh begins from 5 am on Tuesday. CorCom has said that the people of Manipur should not welcome the President of India, saying that “India has been suppressing the rights of the people of Manipur.” CorCom has appealed for all people to endorse the bandh on Tuesday.
