BJP in Manipur has expelled its chief spokesperson Chongtham Bijoy Singh who was associated with the party for over 27 years. He was also one of the intending candidates of the party from Uripok constituency of Imphal West district who was denied the party ticket.

An order issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh president, A Sharda Devi passed on February 8 last expelled the chief spokesperson from the primary membership of the party for six years. However, it was made known to the chief spokesperson himself and to the public only today with the best reason known to the party leaders only.

Interestingly, Bijoy, one of the most outspoken of the saffron party, addressed the media as the chief spokesperson of the party yesterday (Thursday), two days after he was expelled.

He planned to participate in a panel discussion on a local TV network today as a chief spokesperson of the BJP and he did not turn up, informing that he has been suspended from the party few minutes ahead of the programme, sources said. He was expelled for alleged violation of “the party’s rules and regulations under Article XXV, breach of discipline Clause (b) and (d)”, the order of the state president asserted.

After the denial of the party ticket, Bijoy recently told the media that he would press NOTA (None of the above) button on voting day

While strongly reacting to his expulsion, Ch Bijoy, in a talk to reporters, said that he was expelled by some “self-centric leaders” without following proper procedures. He also said that he worked for the BJP for the last more than 27 years at various capacities being a lover of the party’s ideology. “However, the BJP has now compromised its ideology and commitment,” Bijoy added.

He expressed his strong resentment while asserting that incumbent party leaders have sidelined the party’s long suffering cadres and leaders.
