Manipur CM calls for rebuilding trust among all communities

Newmai News Network Imphal | April 3   Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Monday said media can help bring all communities in the state together, adding his slogan to bridge the gap between the hills and valley is “go to hills.”   A six-member delegation of the Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union (MHJU) met the Chief Minister in his chamber here during which Biren Singh said media has to play a big role in bringing together all ethnic groups despite their diversity.   Promising that his government will maintain its drive to ensure transparency, the CM further sought suggestions from the media persons in the hills in restoring trust among different groups of the state, an official release said.   He assured the MHJU representatives that he would ensure that benefits reach all beneficiaries under Tribal Development and Hills. Biren Singh also assured them that he would personally involve in the distribution of these benefits at all district headquarters of hill districts.   In response to a memorandum received from the union, Biren Singh instructed the Chief Engineer, PWD to take up renovation work on the existing Press Club, Churachandpur. He also gave nod to allocate land for setting up of a Press Club of the union at Imphal.   He also suggested the union to request respective district administrations to provide rooms in their Mini Secretariats for establishment of one Press Club each at all the district headquarters.   The MHJU delegation was led by its president Sothing Shimray and general secretary S Nengkhalun.
