Manipur Chief Minister N BirenSingh stated that the State Government has constituted a State level committeecomprising members cutting across party lines to identify developmental needsat minority dominated areas.
He was speaking as the chiefguest at the Minorities Rights Day organised by Manipur State MinoritiesCommission (MSMC) at Chandrakirti auditorium today. He said that the StateGovernment is set to take up various developmental works under a pilot projectat minority dominated areas of the State. Lilong being the most importantminority area of the State, works for the said project would be taken up firstat the locality. However, developmentalworks would be extended to other minority areas as well in due course of time,he added.
As part of this new initiativeof the State Government, a market shed worth Rs. 4.30 crore exclusively forMeitei-Pangal womenfolk would be constructed at Lilong, for which foundationstone would be laid as soon as possible, the Chief Minister said. Apart fromit, a Sadbhavana Mandap and a 50-bedded hostel for boys and girls would also beconstructed at the locality as soon as possible, Biren Singh said.
The Chief Minister alsoannounced that around 1500-2000 minority families have been identified toprovide benefits under PMAY housing scheme. In order to provide skilldevelopment training to minority youths, Industrial Training Institute (ITI),Lilong would be upgraded to an advanced skill development training centre.
MSMC Chairman Dr. SyedBurhan-Uddin, Manipur State Haj Committee Chairman Moulana Abdus Salam, MSMCMembers Dr. M.S. Ningomba and Rev. M. Ranjit Singh and Secretary (MOBC) Kh.Raghumani Singh also attended the function as dignitaries.
