A month-long mass campaign to 'save democracy, secularism and constitution' was launched on Saturday at Irawat Bhavan in Imphal.

Manipur State Council  of Communist Party of India (CPI) launched the campaign as a part of CPI’s nationwide campaign following a resolution adopted by a three-day national council meeting of the party held at Kolkatta in February first week.

Launching the campaign, CPI national executive member Dr M Nara expressed concern over the "prevailing situation" across the country under the BJP regime.

He blamed the BJP, the party leading NDA government at the Centre, for the "prevailing chaotic situation" across the country.

"Employees of almost all the private sectors across the country are on agitation mode and many of them have been resorting to cease work strikes and other forms of agitation", Dr Nara said.

He also alleged that the government at the Centre as well as in some states ruled by BJP are eyeing on the policy of privatisation of hospitals and banks.

This privatisation policy will be given a great impact to the poor section of the society. The most affected people due to privatisation of bank will be the farmers. "This policy will also cause inconveniences in education sector too", he also said. "Instead of considering these possible impacts, the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is giving emphasis to the corporate houses", he added.
