After a clash between two groups of people on Monday evening over alleged destruction of idols of a temple, Section 2 of 144 of CrPC has been promulgated in Telipati area of Imphal East district.
The order banned assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of firearms, sticks, stones, weapons or objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons.
This prohibitory order in the area will be effective for one month with effect from 10 pm of December 5, the order issued by Imphal East district magistrate stated.
The prohibitory order came after a clash between two groups of people in and around the Telipati area over the issue of alleged destruction of idols of a temple in Telipati.
Following the alleged destruction of the idols, a large number of residents of Telepati area came out and obstructed vehicular movements by burning tyres on the roads and holding a sit-in-protest.
There is still tension between the two parties and there is likelihood of untoward incident which might endanger human lives and properties, the order of the district magistrate stated.
Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren Singh today assured booking of all culprits involved in the alleged destruction of the idols as well as those who had triggered the clash by posting hate messages on social media.
Biren Singh also strongly condemned the incident during his visit to the site where the unsettling clash happened on Monday evening.
Talking to reporters at the site, Biren Singh said that social media posts were the primary reason for clashes and divide.
"Those spreading such hate messages must be dealt with immediately, he said.
While strongly condemning the unlawful act, the chief minister also appealed to the people to use social media very responsibly.
