Manipur: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacts with Army & Assam Rifles troops

The Union Minister for Defence, Rajnath Singh addressed the troops of Red Shield Division and Assam Rifles during his visit to Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhri, in Manipur on August 19. 

The Union Minister was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, GOC-in–C Eastern Command, Lieutenant General R P Kalita, GOC Spear Corps, Lieutenant General R C Tiwari, GOC Red Shield Division, Major General Naveen Sachdeva, SM, IG Assam Rifles (South), Major General Rajan Sharawat along with other senior officers of Army and Assam Rifles in the interaction programme held at the IGAS (S) headquarters in Imphal’s Mantripukhri.

Speaking to the troops after the interaction, Rajnath Singh encouraged the troops to serve the nation with dedication while crediting them “for the ever improving security situation in the border state of Manipur.”

While lauding the contribution of the Red Shield Division in the “defense of the nation”, he also commended the stellar role of Assam Rifles in internal security and securing the Indo-Myanmar border. “The Assam Rifles takes a key role in bringing northeast into the national mainstream,” he said.

The Union minister arrived in Imphal on Thursday to take part in the inauguration of the Manipur chapter of the Durand Cup.
