Manipur Drivers Association (MDA) on Sunday lodged a formal complaint on the torching of a Manipur-bound truck by miscreants along NH-2 between Khuzama and Viswema in the wee hours of Saturday.

Members of the MDA along with other drivers’ bodies, who went to Nagaland today, lodged the complaint to the Khuzama police station, said MDA at a press conference held at the office of the Senapati District Truck Owners’ Association (SDTOA) after lodging the complaint.

Speaking at the press conference, MDA general secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum appealed to all concerned not to target vehicles and truckers (drivers and handymen) while imposing bandh or any other strike against a particular community.

Goods ferrying vehicles and the drivers and handymen have nothing to do with the ongoing ban on the entry of Mao people of Manipur in areas within the jurisdiction of Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) in Nagaland, he said.

So, people imposing bandhs or resorting to agitations should refrain from targeting vehicles, particularly goods ferry trucks, he also said.

To disrupt the plying of vehicles on the national highways and harassing drivers and handymen are against the law, he added.

The MDA also demanded that the Nagaland government must compensate the torched truck. The MDA also drew the attention of the concerned authorities of the Central government to end the deadlock between SAPO and Mao Council.

Meanwhile, president of Senapati District Truck Owners Association (SDTOA), Daikho Sani strongly condemned the torching of the truck while imposing a ban on a community.

He informed that while lodging the complaint, the officials of the Khuzuma police station assured providing adequate security escorts to the vehicles from Phisema to Mao Gate  on the NH-2.
