Manipur: Experts yet to identify unknown predators

Newmai News Network Imphal | December 5 Even after three days of investigation into the mysterious killings of domestic animals in Manipur by unknown predators the experts from Wildlife Institute of India (WII) based in Dehradun, are yet to identify the predators.   Since October this year 140 domestic animals including cattle, pigs, ducks, goats and chicken have allegedly been killed by the unknown predators, according to a report. The report added that nearly 40 incidents have been reported from the districts of Churachandpur, Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching and Kangpokpokpi. The latest of such incidents were reported as recent as yesterday from Thangmeiband area of Imphal West district where two rabbits and five fowl were found killed.   Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Anurag Vajpayee said that they will take some more days to identify the predators. Meanwhile, panic continues to grip the people. Social media has even fueled the intensity of rumours with wild stories doing the round in the past few weeks. Scientists have installed cameras in various areas. So far they are yet to come up with their concrete stories. The incident of severely mutilated animal body parts found at different localities of Churachandpur district was first reported in the month of October.
