Isolated wards of six beds each have been opened in the two biggest government run hospitals in Imphal as the State Government of Manipur geared up to tackle any possible outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
All district and private hospitals in Manipur have also been ordered to keep an isolated ward in their respective hospitals. Manipur Health department has restricted taking leave by doctors and their subordinate staffs except on medical ground.
An official source said that Indian Council of Medical Research, as part of countrywide alert on the dreaded virus, has appointed a medical staff of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal as a nodal officer.
Samples of any suspected case of coronavirus detected by the healthcare centres across the state will be submitted to the nodal officer who will forward it to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for confirmation test.
Government and private hospitals across the state including RIMS and JNIMS have ordered to treat any suspected case of the disease by keeping the patients at the isolated wards opened in the respective hospitals.
Meanwhile, director of Manipur Health department Dr K Rajo, in an interview with a local TV network, appealed the people to consult doctors if one develops severe fever with sudden weakness and respiratory problem.
