
Newmai News Network Imphal | April 9 In an effort towards providing easy access to the legislators and top bureaucrats, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced to hold ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day) on the “15th of every month”. He made the announcement while speaking as chief guest at a reception function hosted by the women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel in Imphal in his honour today. The Chief Minister said that public would be allowed to meet the Chief Minister, Ministers, Commissioners, Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to lodge their complaints and air their grievances on the “15th of every month”. Conveying that a formal official order would be issued soon in this regard, N. Biren Singh said that his Government is fully committed to work tirelessly in the interest of the people of Manipur. He said that ending United Naga Council (UNC) sponsored economic blockade, resolving Churachandpur issue and revamping National Highway-37 were the three tasks which he had decided to do first soon after he was sworn-in as the Chief Minister. Stating that the first round of talks with Joint Action Committee Against Anti Tribal Bills (JAC-AATB) ended on a positive note, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the impasse would be resolved within a few days' time. Maintaining that repairing works on the Imphal-Jiribam highway had begun gaining pace, Biren said he would personally inspect the condition of the road and work progress soon. Regarding the problems of vending space, pollution and traffic congestion in Imphal city, the Chief Minister said that the State now has a competent and dynamic MAHUD Minister and all the problems would be sorted out soon by chalking out a long-term plan. Every hill district headquarters would now have a women’s market each, he said. The Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already sanctioned funds for the said project, he added. Taking serious note of question leakage of Physics subject in Class XII examinations conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), Biren asserted that an independent body would probe the matter and his Government would not spare those who are involved in the mess. Speaking at the occasion, MAHUD, Forest and Environment and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar urged the women vendors and public to extend cooperation and give some time to the State Government in making Imphal city and Ima Keithel neat and tidy. In his speech, Works, RD&PR, Commerce and Industries, Power and IPR Minister Th. Biswajit assured the women vendors to complete the repairing works of Ima Keithel No.2 and 3 before September this year. He also promised to complete construction of market shed undergoing at the Tombisana High School complex at the earliest.
