Newmai News Network Imphal | September 13 The proposed 48 hours Manipur hill district bandh called from September 14, 6:00 am has been called-off following the fulfillment of the demand by the State Government of Manipur. "We will not go ahead with the bandh as the State Government has paid heed to our demand by invalidating the Cabinet Sub-Committee," said Joseph Rongmei. The All Tribal Rights’ Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) and Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM), the Chief Minister of Manipur and the Minister in-charge of Tribal Affairs and Hills (TA & Hills) met this morning and settled the issue of the Cabinet Sub-Committee that was constituted on August 23 by the Manipur Government to look into the functioning of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) Senapati, Churachandpur and Tamenglong. Following the meeting, the the Cabinet Sub-Committee was invalidated. The ATRPFM lauded the Chief Minister and the Minister of TA and Hills for settling the issue of constitution of the Cabinet Sub-Committee. On August 23, the Secretary of the Tribal Affairs and Hills (TA & Hills), Government of Manipur, issued an order in pursuing to a decision of the State Cabinet to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to look into the functioning of Autonomous District Councils in respect of Senapati, Churachandpur and Tamenglong. Consequently, a six-member cabinet sub-committee was constituted led by Works Minister, Th Bishwarjit Singh as chairman with five ministers including V Hangkhanlian, Jayantakumar, L Dikho, Kayisii and Letpao Haokip as members to look into the functioning of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in respect of Senapati, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts. Speaking to Newmai News Network this evening, Joseph Rongmei, President of ATRPFM said that it was a great achievement of the tribal people. He also expressed happy that the matter was settled before resorting to any form of agitation.
