Media houses in Manipur renewed protests on Friday after suspending publications for six days. The scribes staged a sit-in protest at the premises of the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

The protest was renewed following fresh threats to Poknapham, a daily publication where a suspected militant group hurled a bomb earlier this month.

A joint meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) deliberated on the alleged threats and set a 48-hour deadline seeking a detailed account of charges leveled against Poknapham daily by the group responsible for attack.

Newspapers failed to hit stands for six consecutive days in Manipur after the scribes resorted to cease-work agitation to protest the attack on the Poknapham office which also houses the office of its sister publication The People’s Chronicle.
