Imphal | April 20

After two MLAs of the ruling Bhartiyav Janata Party (BJP) distanced themselves from the Manipur government led by N Biren Singh, another party’s MLA also followed the suit on Thursday.

MLA Paonam Brojen Singh tendered his resignation as chairman of the Manipur Development Society.

Unlike the previous two MLAs, Brojen, however, gave the reason for his resignation as “some personal grounds”.
"I tender my resignation from the post of chairman of Manipur Development Society (MDS) due to some personal grounds," Brojen stated in his resignation letter submitted to the chief minister on April 20.

Earlier, two MLAs of the BJP had distanced themselves from the government by tendering resignation from the posts they were appointed. Sitting BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam tendered his resignation as advisor to the chief minister on April 13 while expressing his resentment.

In less than a week, MLA Karam Shyam also submitted his resignation from the post of the chairmanship of Manipur State Tourism Development Corporation. He submitted his resignation on April 17. In his resignation letter, Shyam stated that he was not assigned any responsibility as a chairman of the corporation.

Both the MLAs expressed their resentment against the chief minister in video clips they sent out through the social media platforms.

In the same manner, Brojen also sent out a video clip. In the video, the MLA expressed his strong resentment when the chief minister failed to keep the assurance he had kept.

Among others, the MLA alleged of not releasing bills for the road development works to the tune of Rs 5 crore taken up in his constituency before 2022 despite repeated assurance from the chief minister.

He also alleged that he could do nothing as MDS chairman as the proposals he put up to the chief minister always turned down.

Brojen won the state Assembly elections held in 2022 from Wangjing-Tentha Assembly constituency on BJP ticket.

Even though he cited the reason for his resignation as some personal grounds, various sources said that he has been camping in New Delhi for the last few weeks. He was among the four MLAs who recently met with Union Minister of State for DoNER BL Verma. Other MLAs were Th Radheshyam, Karam Shyam and K Raghumani Singh.
