Police on Monday arrested the youngest son of principal of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School in connection with suspicious death of the 14-year-old girl student in her hostel room on July 18 last.
He was produced in the court of district and session judge, Imphal West where he was remanded to police custody for seven days, that is, till August 4.
Personnel of SIT (Special Investigation Team), formed to investigate into the suspicious death case, arrested Pheiroijam Robinson, son of Ph Landoni, the principal of the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School Canchipur, from his house late Monday night.
The police produced him with a prayer for seven days custody in which the court agreed and sent him to the police custody till August 4.
In the same court, the SIT submitted a written prayer to reject the anticipatory bail which was given to principal Ph Lanodoni earlier.
The principal had availed the anticipatory bail on July 20, two days after the death of the student under suspicious circumstance.
The hearing of the bail rejection prayer of the SIT will be held on Wednesday, the judge announced.
Imphal West SP K Meghachandra, however, said that Robinson was picked by SIT. He also said that the SIT investigating into the case has incorporated some of the theories circulated on social media.
He said, “Several theories have come out on social media but most of them have been found to be completely baseless but police have incorporated some theories in the investigation making all the options open and the investigation free, fair and transparent as much as possible.”
Police have also arrested two persons, including a woman, for posting inciting comments on social media in connection with the case.
The police officer suggested that people who can be the witnesses should come forward and help the police in the investigation.
Earlier in the morning, a team of SIT re-inspected the room where the girl student was found dead by hanging along with forensic experts of the state Police Forensic department.
Representatives of the "Joint Ation Committee (JAC) against Mysterious Death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu also took part in the re-investigation the room located inside the campus of the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.
Police said that the JAC members were allowed to be present in order to clear the doubt of the people voicing for justice for the minor student.
