Manipur wins North East Olympics 2022

Nagaland comes in 5th with 18 gold medals

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): Manipur won the North East Olympics 2022 while Nagaland came in 5th on the final day of the games on November 16. Manipur won a total of 240 medals, with Assam coming in second with 203 medals (88 gold medals, 75 silver medals and 77 bronze medals). 

Nagaland meanwhile came in 5th with a total of 78 medals which included 18 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 43 bronze medals. This was the team’s best ever performance. On the final day of the event, the Nagaland team picked up medals in archery, boxing, karate and lawn tennis. 

Thinuohelie Metha and Neikesa Sakhrie picked up the bronze medal in the archery compound mixed team event. Meanwhile, Edikunu Rikha and Kilen Meren won the silver medal in the archery recurve mixed team event. Earlier in the day, Edikunu Rikha had won the gold medal in the archer women’s individual round. 

Boxers from Nagaland also had a very good day at the NE Olympics. Zhosato Vadeo won bronze in the 75 kg men’s event; Imsubenla won bronze in the 54 kg women’s event; Kughaho Swu picked up silver in the 48 kg men’s event; Maiham Girisa won bronze in the 63 kg men’s event; and N Ongwang Konyak won bronze in the 57 kg men’s event. 

In Karate, Tiabenla Jamir won the bronze medal in the Under 68 kg women’s event. 

Meanwhile, in lawn tennis, Nagaland won the gold medal in men’s doubles. 

Chief Minister, Nephiu Rio congratulated the Nagaland team on his Twitter handle. He stated: “Congratulations to team Nagaland, especially to the medalists for our best ever performance at the 2nd North East Olympic Games, 2022 and winning 79 medals. Special compliments to Naga Athletics for a record 23 medals,” the Chief Minister stated.
