I. Himato Zhimomi, commissioner secretary for health & family welfare on Thursday released a manual book for ASHAs/ANMs on general wellness & common ailments including diabetes mellitus through AYUSH.
This was released during the inaugural function of the State Level Training of Trainers (ToT) for orientation of ASHAs/ANMs to the potential of AYUSH, state level seminar on Yoga & Naturopathy and 4th International Day of Yoga 2018 here under the Nagaland State AYUSH Mission Society, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland under the auspices of National AYUSH Mission.
India has a rich tradition of indigenous system of medicine e.g. Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and local health practices. The manual book stated that many people prefer to access and utilize service available from such providers.
ASHA is contributing towards mainstreaming of AYUSH by promoting the various popular remedies for prevailing common ailments in rural communities.
ASHA and health workers will provide few AYUSH medicines for primary health care for minor ailments like Diarrhoea, constipation, worm infestation, abdominal discomfort with locally available medicinal plants and products.
The training modules of ASHA includes remedies available in Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy systems of medicine.
“This manual would help ASHA and other health workers to guide people who desire to undergo treatment as per preference for the particular therapy,” the manual book stated.
