DIMAPUR (MExN): Threatened by an extortion note served by Maoists in Nepal, an alternative medicine practitioner coming from the land draped along the spine of the Himalayas has set foot in Dimapur, Nagaland to continue with his trade.
Dr Tanka Bahadur Thapa says that nearly a month ago he was told to pay Rs 3 Lakh Nepal Rupees by Maoists. He was faced with a dilemma. If he paid the money, the Nepal Government would crack down on him. If he didn’t, the Maoists would make life hell for him. Tanka adopted Plan C. He came to Nagaland.
Trained in the dispensation of Chinese alternative medicine at Al Mansour Institute, Malaysia and later at Kolkata where he received his doctor’s degree, Tanka has provided treatment to patients from the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. He’s come to Nagaland because he feels it’s a ‘safe place’.
Tanka claims he can cure any kind of disease by putting into practice various forms of alternative treatment such as acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, API (treatment by the use of honey), reflexology and candle, light, urine, herbal and fire therapies.
When allopathic treatment fails, patients come to me, the practitioner says. His medicines come from China.
Patients, after examination, will be given a definite time-frame within which they are to be cured. During this period, a person undergoing treatment has to visit the clinic each and every day, Tanka says. He opens shop at Half Nagarjan, Dimapur tomorrow. The doctor’s initial fees? Rs 3000 a month.
