Maong Longkumer wins M-Fest photo contest

The first of its kind photo competition in an M-Fest today concluded with three photographers winning the first, second and third prizes respectively for their photographs which was judged by professional photographers from outside the state.  The photo competition which was organized by the Mokokchung District Arts and Culture Council (MDACC) in collaboration with the Mokokchung Photography Club saw twenty three entries from local photographers, and the judges who came from outside the state were amazed with the perception and the beauty of the photographs which were clicked on the theme ‘faces and places’ of Mokokchung.
After a thorough inspection by the judges - Rohan Patoley (TV Presenter of Travel XP, Zee TV and NDTV Imagine) and Vishal Sabharwal (Professional freelance photographer) – Maong Longkumer was adjudged the winner for his picture portraying a young girl clicked behind a window. Achila Jamir was adjudged the second place for her picture of an old man captured in a remote village. Bendangtsungchit Jamir was adjudged the third winner for his picture portraying the scenic Mokokchung town view.
An impressed Rohan Patoley, after judging the photos commented, “I Loved the moments captured, but there is always scope for improvement. Saying that Mokokchung has great potentials, Patoley encouraged the Mokokchung Photography Club their ‘chins up and continue doing the great job’.
The other judge, Vishal Sabharwal (freelance photographer) commented his thrill on judging the photographs.  “It was absolutely wonderful to witness the photographers from Mokokchung coming together, forming a common forum to discuss photography. As they showcase their brilliant state and various other districts and villages I wish them all the very best,” said Sabharwal.
Meanwhile the coordinator of the competition and also the Convener of the Mokokchung Photography Club, Imnaonen Pongen expressed deep satisfaction on the number of entries given by the local photographers for the competition and also for the contest, though the contest was organized on such a short notice.
The MPC convener also deeply acknowledged the critical comments given by the judges and maintained that their valuable comments will go a long way in improving such exhibitions and competitions in the days to come.
Another member of the MPC, Sashi Jamir also aired more or less the same views. He said that the MPC is organizing the competition for the first time (in collaboration with the MDACC), and that the turnout was very satisfactory. Sashi Jamir further expressed that with the successful hosting of the photo exhibition cum competition during the M-Fest; more photographers would come forward and give their photos in the next event.
Meanwhile, in the painting competition, Temsukaba was adjudged the winner for his picture portraying different faces of Mokokchung in a modern art form. Purtoshi, with his picture conveying the satirical message of evil in a Christian state, was placed in the second position, while Lipok was placed in the third position for his picture portraying traditional and cultural heritage of the Ao Naga people. The painting competition was judged by renowned artist, Lanu Pongen who is a recipient of the National Merit Award 2003, Governor’s Gold Medal for distinguished service 2004 Governor’s Medal for distinction in the field of Art 2009.  
The winners of the first, second and third places in both the photo and painting competition would be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
