Longleng, January 23 (MExN): In commemoration of National Day of Girl Child, District Administration and District Hub for Empowerment of Woman (DHEW), Longleng organised a marathon race on the theme “I Came, I Ran, I Finished” observing Beti Bachao Beti Padhao weeklong campaign in view of National Day of the Girl Child at Longleng on January 22.
A DIPR report stated that the SDO (C) and Nodal Officer BBBP Longleng, Meyazungba Jamir in his address said, “In Nagaland, women and girls are outperforming men when it comes to education. Women will eventually dominate the State when it comes to education because knowledge is power, and education will overcome any shortcomings.”
The motto of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, which translates to “Save the Girl Child and Elevate the Girl Child in Every Aspect,” refers to the need for introspection and contemplation. “And to cut things short, let us start with the smallest unit: the family. It is the responsibility of a family to provide possibilities for their girl child and to educate her about her rights, as understanding one's rights is crucial,” the speaker stated. He added, “Man needs to support women, and it is our responsibility to ensure that their rights are protected in addition to providing for their education.”
Deputy Commissioner Longleng, Dharam Raj, IAS, flagged off the race. Earlier, Shingyom, Deaconess Longleng Town Baptist Church pronounced the invocation. The race started at NST junction till Lempong junction and return back to NST junction. Eimei Angloi C, from Shauli ward bagged the first while Yunglei. L from PPC ward and C. Chunggoi from Bahonk ward came second and third respectively.
