Dimapur, Dec 15 (MExN): Pertinent to the release of margin money to be paid to registered societies as well as related loan issues, ex-MLA from Kiphire, RL Akamba, clarifies on certain particulars including one which alleges that Rs. 36.50 Lakh was misused by the department of Co-operation.
The ex-MLA in a press note stated that all registered societies are functioning well which has been verified by ICDP Tuensang Project Officer Kakuto Sema. All verification reports were submitted and societies were ‘anxiously’ awaiting release of the margin money. However, the first installment amounting to Rs 36.50 Lakh was misused by the department. A case has been registered against one ‘lower ranking officer’ at Tuensang Police station “just to wash the hands of department before the public”, the clarification stated adding that for this reason, the ultimatum made by beneficiaries to the government stands.
Akamba further stated that registered societies are aware of the “meaning of loan” taken from the government as well as margin money to be received, for successful functioning of societies and economic self-sustenance. The ultimatum was served to state authorities and it is the bounden duty of the minister in charge, secretary of the department or otherwise RCS if not MDSC society Ltd., Dimapur, to respond or clarify, Akamba stated. ‘Lower ranking officers’ have no ‘responsibility’ to issue press statements, he opined.
“Further if the department of cooperation winds up the scheme of ICDP Tuensang by December 2006 without payment of 2nd phase, 3rd phase, 4th phase and 5th phase, the department of Co-operation would be unfortunate for the Naga people” the ex-MLA stated and appealed to the concern authorities as well as the Chief Minister to take necessary steps to settle the issue. “Failing to comply with the ultimatum would mean the department has “committed crime” against the members and the department’s authorities are liable to answer, he added.
