Martial art coaching camp in Mokokchung underway

The week-long martial arts free coaching camp organized by Mokokchung District Martial Art Association got underway here today at the Multi Sports Hall, Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Imkong Jamir, vice president of Ao Senden as special guest. Trainees in the week-long camp will be trained in the martial art disciplines of Boxing, Wushu, Karate, Taekwondo, Inside Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Kick Boxinh and New Kung Fu. Selection of players for the Nagaland Olympics 2019 to represent Mokokchung will also be done during the camp.
The coaches for the camp are Moalemba, black belt New Kung Fu; Bendangakum, black belt 3rd Dan New Kung Fu and black belt 3rd Dan Seigo Kai; Supongmeren, ISKF 3rd Dan Karate-Do and KAI 2nd Dan Shito-Ryu; Mongsensari, kickboxing 1st Dan; Bendangtuba, Taekwando 3rd Dan; Methlab, Muay Thai Instructor; Nukshi, Inside Kung Fu instructor; Aolong, boxing coach; and Toshimeren, black belt New Kung Fu.
President of MDMAA Rongsentoshi Jamir said that talented players will be selected to represent the district in the disciplines of Taekwando, boxing and Wushu for the Nagaland Olympics to be held in December. He also said that MDMAA was working on promoting Mixed Martial Arts in the district and that an MMA event would be organized before year end. He added that MDMAA since its inception in 1991 has been promoting martial art in the district and that they have produced athletes who have shone at the national and international levels. He also said martial art practitioners stay away from social evils and that it promotes self-discipline and physical fitness, as well as self-defense and builds self-confidence.
The special guest lauded the MDMAA for organizing the coaching camp and for their tireless efforts through the years. He also exhorted the athletes to master the arts to serve humanity and hoped that MDMAA would produce medal winners at the highest levels of competitions.
As part of the inaugural program, kata demonstrations were displayed by regular karate and taekwondo students and instructors. About 45 students have so far registered for the coaching camp. MDMAA has also informed that registrations would continue to remain open for interested people.
