The reopening of Mascot Store and Cafe was held at the Mascot Café, Arkong ward Mokokchung on May 18. The programme was graced by Sentirenla Jamir, wife of Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Mascot Store has a long history as one of the most successful bakeries in the Mokokchung market. M Supong Longkumer, proprietor of Mascot Store and Cafe, thanked the citizens for their love and support of his business while reminiscing about its journey.
Aliamoa S Longkumer, son of the proprietor, described the family business's ups and downs. He stated it is ironic that he was born and raised in that house, yet the people of Mokokchung know and appreciate the Mascot Store better than he does. He requested the people to continue to love and support him in the same way that they have shown his father over the course of Mascot’s 28 years.
Tsukti Longkumer, President of Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry, congratulated the proprietors on the grand reopening of the Mascot Store & Café, stating that a store that has been operational for 28 years is proof of its constancy, devotion, and success, despite many ups and downs it may have encountered. Furthermore, he stated that the Mokokchung market is the cheapest in all of Nagaland because the entrepreneurs do not pay taxes. He encouraged the entrepreneurs to continue giving the same good services to the customers as they have for the past 28 years.
Sentinungla, DPO, Department of Land Resources, Mokokchung, stated that the opening of a one-of-a-kind Nagaland coffee cafe in Mokokchung is another effort by the Land Resources Department, Government of Nagaland, to promote the habit of drinking coffee grown in Nagaland by Naga coffee cultivators.
She stated that coffee plantations in Nagaland were established in the 1980s by the Coffee Board and the Nagaland Plantation Crops Development Corporation (NPCDC), but they were not successful. So, in 2014 and 2015, the Land Resources Department and the Coffee Board refurbished and resurrected the old plantations. The Land Resources Department has covered 600 hectares of land in coffee plantations, she stated.
The special guest, in her speech congratulated the family on successfully running the Mascot Store for 28 consecutive years and thanked the Advisor, Land resources, Government of Nagaland. She stated that, the people love the Nagaland coffee cultivated by the Naga coffee cultivators and expressed gratitude on the fact that, Mascot Store & Café will also be one of the cafe where Nagaland coffee will be promulgated.
