DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 20 (MExN): Departing from convention and in keeping with the Public Seminar voice of People on the Streets against antisocial activities, the Programme Committee as entrusted by the Public Meeting of 17th October 2011, held its first Meeting at 10 AM on October 20 at Naga Council office to discuss and formulate the protest programme for October 29 in Dimapur.
According to a copy of the public resolution issued by the Naga Council President Savi Liegise and General Secretary Ntsemo Ngullie, the meeting unanimously decided that the fight against extortion/kidnapping/rape/unlawful taxation, etc particularly in Dimapur cannot be eradicated on a single day. Hence, the battle against social evils in Dimapur will be launched in a phased campaign to produce concrete results, stated the resolution.
It was also resolved that the battle against various antisocial activities in Dimapur cannot be fought alone by few organizations over few rallies/processions, etc. The meeting strongly acknowledged the fact that this prevailing lawlessness troubling the citizens of Dimapur will require the involvement and participation of the entire population of the township and beyond without whose participation and serious cooperation, it serves no more purpose by criticizing the Police, Administration, Government, Undergrounds, etc.
Hence, the Programme Committee, based on the unanimous voice of the 1st October Public Seminar, decided to conduct the long-term Campaign in a phased manner to be devised from time to time.
Accordingly, as a first step, the Programme Committee decided to request all and every human population of Dimapur to observe Two Hours of symbolic Protest from 8 AM – 10 AM at own house (your own house compound) or own colony/village main road, own School/College compound/road, own commercial spot, institutional campus, by wearing self-made black badges or black arm bands, holding own slogans written on paper/placards, drumming traditional or make shift drums.
This having to involve each and every family/school/colleges/establishments, etc, the population is requested to observe few hours of protest on 29 October morning 8 AM to 10 AM by stopping from shopping and commercial/domestic activities but to render full cooperation on this morning if we are against social evils in the society. “This reflect the logic that if every home/area/individual stand up and raise their voices, certainly a strong signal shall reverberate across the town and register impact”.
The joint action committee shall visit all the colonies/villages/schools as they demonstrate in their own respective places.
There shall be no ban on vehicular movements.
Further, a list of various Organizations, Hohos, Unions, Departments have been requested to erect the hoarding with a design symbolizing the fear and sufferings of Dimapur and its protest against social evils at vantage points by them (Design to be supplied). All citizens of Dimapur, regardless of tribe, religion, rich or poor, profession/occupation, high or low, young or old, regardless of political affiliations, are all fervently requested to give few hours to protest against antisocial activities on 29 October from 8 AM to 10 AM at your own respective homes & colonies.
All the Colony/Village Chairmen, GBs of various Colonies in Dimapur, all Church Pastors (Please announce in Church on Sundays), Principals & Heads of Schools/Colleges/Institutions, Departments, Tribe Hoho Presidents, Women Presidents of various tribes, Chairman of all non-Naga Communities, Leaders of various political organizations, are requested to treat this media notice as official as it is impossible to issue separate individual letters and respond to this public call to protest peacefully at respective places against persistent antisocial activities plaguing citizens of Dimapur.
“This event is not for leaders only. It is for the benefit of all who live and face trouble in Dimapur. If you love peace, please participate by giving few hours on 29 October 2011”, appealed the Naga Council.
