Mass rally held in Tseminyu against State’s 48-year-old reservation policy

The Rengma Hoho organized a peaceful protest rally at Tseminyu on May 29 opposing Nagaland’s 48-year-old indefinite reservation policy in state government jobs.

TSEMINYU, MAY 31 (MExN): In a show of solidarity with the Angami, Ao, Lotha, and Sumi tribes, the Rengma Hoho organized a peaceful protest rally at Tseminyu District Headquarters on May 29 opposing Nagaland’s 48-year-old indefinite reservation policy in state government jobs.

The rally, which began at 10 AM, drew over 2,000 participants including community leaders, students, women, and youth from across Tseminyu district. The programme was chaired by Hanenmu Semy, Vice President of Rengma Hoho, while the keynote address was delivered by its President, Er. Tesinlo Semy.

Solidarity speeches were presented by representatives of the Rengma Students’ Union, Rengma Mothers’ Association, Rengma Selo Zi, Rengma Chairmen Forum, and the Rengma GB Association. The event was jointly organised by the Rengma Students’ Union, Rengma Selo Zi, and Rengma Mothers’ Association under the aegis of the Rengma Hoho.

A memorandum addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland was read aloud by Rengma Hoho Secretary, Nthonwa Magh, before it was formally submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu.

Following the rally, a peaceful procession was carried out from the Rengma Hoho office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Protesters called for a review of the decades-old reservation policy, which they claim has led to inequities and resentment among certain tribal communities in the state.
