MASS tribute to Kaka D Iralu

Bubumoni Goswami

Chairman, MASS

Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) expresses its grief and sorrow at the passing away of our dear comrade and fellow traveller, Kaka D Iralu on April 9, 2020 in Dimapur. His death leaves an immense void in the intellectual and political world of indigenous communities of our region.

Kaka Iralu was a friend of the people of Assam and always extended his solidarity for the various movements here. His commitment to the Naga cause was exemplary. In his brief lifetime, he documented the horrors of state violence and resistance in the Naga territories. In doing so, he also served as an example for others in the region. He reminded us of the need to document and archives our resistance to oppression by a powerful state.

Further, in his defence of the right to self-determination of the Naga people, he reminded all indigenous communities of the region that ours was a world to win and that the fight against oppression was universal.

We stand with the Naga people in their hour of loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kaka Iralu’s family and friends. In doing so, we wish to reiterate our solidarity with the causes that he stood for all his life. May his soul rest in peace.

In solidarity!
