PATKAI, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): Two-day masterclass on News Sense, Editing and Data Journalism organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) that commenced on September 13 last concluded today.
Senior journalist, Dr Moalemba Jamir, as the trainer delved on the significance of developing news sense and discussed at length on the essential elements and factors of news editing. Dr Moa spoke on the fundamental rule for developing and writing news stories as journalists.
Reiterating the importance of developing news sense, Dr Moa told the students, “You shouldn’t accept whatever I’m saying as an absolute truth. Your job is to fact check with the one you’re interacting.”
He further stressed on recognizing emerging trends and perspectives within a routine event for coming up with a story.
Dr Moa conducted several interactive sessions including one where he tasked the students with creating headlines for sample news stories. He ALSO provided practical feedback and offered advices on how to create compelling headlines.
Another session focused on photojournalism, where students were encouraged to analyze the images and ensure every picture taken tells a story.
Dr Jamir also conducted a role play exercise designed to simulate a press conference, where a student acted as a tourism director, and the class was tasked with formulating questions as media persons.
The session helped students practice asking relevant questions and guided them on how to frame journalistic questions that extract valuable information.
Faculty, Sansan Lotha thanked the resource person and the students for the successful conduct of the two-day masterclass. Altogether 30 participants attended the two-day masterclass.
