Kohima, November 1 (MExN): The Baptist College, Kohima has organised a one day workshop on “Mastering Academic Writing: Publication in UGC-CARE & Impact Factor Journals” on October 30.
Dr Mimi Kevichüsa Ezung, Associate Professor, Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University was the resource person in the first session and spoke on “Effective Academic Writing.”
Dr Ezung highlighted the importance of thorough research, clear writing, and maintaining ethical standards in academia. She pointed out that the key points in academic writing were formulating research questions, constructing well-organized paragraphs, and ensuring proper citation to avoid plagiarism. Dr Ezung emphasised on maintaining an unbiased perspective in research, concluding with a quote from Francis Bacon, urging participants to remain critical of their work.
The resource person in the second session of the academic workshop, Prof Nigamananda Das, Head of the Department of English, NU, emphasised on the significance of publishing in UGC-CARE journals, highlighting the establishment of the consortium to enhance academic quality following the 2010 reforms in higher education.
He addressed ethical decision-making in research, stressing principles such as honesty, integrity, and respect for intellectual property, while warning against research and publication misconduct. Dr Das explained the concept of Open Access and the dynamic nature of the UGC-CARE journal list, which may be updated based on quality assessments.
The session included insights on Impact Factor journals and their calculation, as well as guidance on creating a structured research paper. Prof Das also discussed various forms of academic writing and the publication requirements for educators. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Kewepfuzu Lohe, Interim Principal, Baptist College.
