MCC conducts national webinar on climate change

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): The Department of Science in collaboration with IQAC Model Christian College (MCC) (NAAC Accredited B++) conducted a one day national webinar on the topic ‘Impact of Climate Change on Natural Resources and Biodiversity’ on November 14, sponsored by Arücho Society for Human Transformation and Development.

Dr Limatemjen, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, was the resource person. He said that climate change alters the entire ecosystem along with all plants and animals, a gradual change in the climate allows the living organisms to adapt and evolve together, while a rapid change in the climate presents a threat to the survival of the species.

It has also led to the increased rate of extinction, change in reproduction timing and growing season of plants. Dr. Limatemjen also advocated that combating climate change is a collective effort and one should not be dependent solely on Governmental agencies and institutions. Further, he encouraged all the participants to plant more trees and reduce one’s own carbon footprint.

The moderator for the webinar was Kedozolie Nagi and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Mhabemo Odyuo. Altogether 172 people attended the webinar.
