MCC joins anti-migrant course in Mokokchung

Dimapur, June 3 (MExN): Joining in the course with the Ao Students Conference and the Watsu Mungdang, the Mokokchung Chambers of Commerce (MCC) declared that the illegal migrants should not be encouraged to engulf the vulnerable economy of the town at any cost.

A press release received here from the president of the MCC, M Bendangnukshi Longkumer and General Secretary, Lanukaba stated that the issue of illegal migrants have been raised by the students all over Nagaland for the last 10-15 years and which have so far remained unsolved. Therefore the MCC stated that it is high time for the general public to contemplate on the future consequences if the menace of illegal migrants is left unattended.

The MCC stated that the number of illegal migrants has increased by leaps and bounds for the last five to six years and added that if it remains unchecked then this will result in demographic unbalance causing uncontrollable problems particularly in Mokokchung and the state as a whole.

“They seem to take over every nook and corner of the town by sheer majority leaving no space for the upcoming local entrepreneurs who want to earn their livelihood by entering into business/entrepreneurship,” stated the MCC.

The MCC called upon the district administration to take proper and effective steps in issuing Inner Line Permit (ILP) and also called upon the police department to discharge their duties with outmost sincerity and commitment, “so that this ILP checking process does not end up becoming another lucrative business for them.” However, the MCC reminded that the district police administration and police should ensure that the ‘genuine people are not harassed and taken for a ride.’

The MCC also advised the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) to carry out their exercise of checking the illegal migrants in the districts very systematically with great wisdom while not undermining the presence of the district administration. However, the MCC stated that the steps taken by the AKM to sort out the problem is very genuine and added that it is for the cause of the people.

The MCC also appealed the state government to come out with a system which can be effective to curb the menace of the migrant issue at the earliest. The MCC pointed out that the illegal migrants have well mingled with ‘their counterparts coming from various parts of the country who are genuine citizens.’ The MCC also cautioned that if the illegal migrant issue is left unchecked, then the disgruntled youths may go on their own ways adding another dimension to the existing issue, the MCC cautioned.

“No doubt, being vigilant and taking and extra step to preserve our culture, economy and homeland can’t be called unpatriotic,” the MCC further stated.
