Mokokchung, March 5 (MExN): Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) held its annual general meeting here today at MMC Complex. Apart from the customary tabling and approving of departmental reports and agenda, the house deliberated on several issues pertaining to safeguarding the interests of business community and adopted a series of resolutions, according to a press release.
The MCCI general body unanimously resolved to enhance the MCCI annual membership registration fee from the existing rate to Rs.500, Rs.400, Rs.300 and Rs.200 for Grade A, Grade B, Grade C and Grade D businesses respectively. Declaring Mokokchung a free and competitive market, the house resolved to discourage monopolizing supply of goods in the market by “dubious, unauthorized, self-styled agencies, dealers and distributors.”
The house also resolved to take up the matter of sanitation tax with the district administration and Mokokchung Municipal Council. The burden of paying for the sanitation and garbage disposal in the town should be shared by all the households spread across 18 wards in the town area, which till date is being paid for by the business community alone, the house felt.The house also resolved to take up the matter of street sweepers employed by MMC with their employer as their service is found to be unsatisfactory.
The meeting observed the gravity of the situation caused by unscrupulous private money lenders in the market in contravention with the provisions of the Nagaland Money Lenders Act and resolved to take the matter to the competent authority for initiation of appropriate measures. It further resolved that individuals/groups/societies lending money to business persons in Mokokchung would be doing so at their own risk and community members of the borrower(s), friends, family members, trade association or MCCI shall not be held responsible should the borrower fail to repay the loan.
The meeting was chaired by President of MCCI, Moasangba Jamir while MCCI Senior Advisor, Lanukaba exhorted the gathering. Guest speaker of the meeting was Dr.Lanusashi Longkumer who spoke on ‘Scope for entrepreneurial development in Mokokchung’.
