MOKOKCHUNG, APRIL 19 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) today reiterated that collection of donations, taxation or any form of transaction that is not permissible by law, where members are coerced or victimized, shall not be tolerated and that the members of the business community under the ambits of MCCI shall not entertain them whatsoever.
A press release from the MCCI informed that some cadres and functionaries of various Naga nationalist groups are demanding money from members of the business community in Mokokchung town. Multiple groups/factions have made the demands during the last few days, it said.
Mokokchung town is the most peaceful major urban center in Nagaland as of today and this hard earned peace is too dear to us to be trampled on by some devious elements, the MCCI stated. “It would bode well for those groups trying to extort from the business community of Mokokchung town to immediately cease and desist,” it added.
The MCCI further directed the members of the business community to report to the MCCI office of movements of any suspected extortionists in the market immediately. Any member of the business community entertaining such unwanted elements by ignoring the call of MCCI office shall be doing so at their own risk, it added.
