MON, MAY 5 (MExN): The Mon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has demanded the immediate rollback of the COVID-19 cess on fuel.
A press release from the MCCI President, N Űnok SN and General Secretary, Kamnyi Konyak said that the Government is only fretful about its revenue. As “market keepers,” the MCCI however stated that the COVID-119 cess will “be disastrous for Nagaland’s social and economic health.”
“We are unable to pay rent and own employees payment and environment of financial stress and insecurity surrounds the economic people’s like rivet around the necks of helpless slaves. The COVID-19 cess will compound the economic depression caused by the lockdown, inducing rapid inflation and higher cost of living making way for rise in the numbers of anti-social elements and a soaring crime rate,” the MCCI claimed.
It further foresaw abnormal price rise of all goods and services in the market because of the cess.
“The policy makers and the rich and privileged class may not be affected by the cess but the vast majority of the common people will be severely hit by the impending economic crisis,” it added.
