MCCI endorses MMC’s tax proposal

Mokokchung, March 31 (MExN): The House of Executives of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has unanimously decided to agree in favour of MMC’s proposal for enhancement of the annual Trade Permit and Sanitation Tax. The proposal called for enhancing the tax by ten rupees per month amounting to Rs.240/- per trader annually.   According to an MCCI press note issued through its Vice-president Tsukti Longkumer and Information Secretary Limalenden Longkumer, the House was entrusted by the its general body at a meeting on March 29 to discuss the matter and the decision for the same was arrived at its meeting on March 30.

Further, the House also resolved to appeal the competent office of MMC not propose any further enhancement or impose any additional taxes for another three consecutive financial years i.e. March 2017 to March 2020 “for incontrovertible reasons MCCI knows best.”   In this regard, the MCCI leaders today had a “marathon but cordial meeting” with MMC authority, where the latter assured the former “there shall be no further enhancement of taxes for three years” as appealed by MCCI.   Consequently, MMCI informed all the all traders to pay the enhanced taxes “without any revulsion” as it is in the best interest of all concerned and MMC’s assurance for tax moratorium for three years.   Maintaining that traders are the only community who pays sanitation tax in Mokokchung and the same is utilized for solid waste management and garbage disposal in all the 18 wards of the town, the MCCI requested the traders to pay the same “in the interest of keeping the town clean and in the service of all the households” in the town.
