MCCI warns against sale of expired goods

Mokokchung, May 11 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has warned traders against selling expired food items.   In a press release, the MCCI informed that a member trader in Mokokchung town was caught selling expired food items. MCCI extended appreciation at the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) and the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) for their vigilance under whose report the police swung into action. “It is expected of the competent authorities to prosecute the guilty party under relevant sections of the law,” the Chamber of Commerce and industries maintained.

Informing members of the chamber that such activities are against the law, the MCCI warned that anyone found indulging in such activities shall be “strongly dealt with”. “All members of the chamber are expected to serve the esteemed customers by adhering to best business practices and ethics let alone resorting to illegal means,” it asserted.   MCCI further appealed to the competent authorities to engage Food Inspectors or other trained officers from the nodal department of the government while checking shops for expired goods. It also requested the competent authorities to educate the masses on the difference between “Best Before” and “Date of Expiry” dates printed on packaged food products.
