MCCK organizes first intercollegiate event ‘Phoenix’

Kohima, August 4 (MExN): Model Christian College, Kohima (MCCK) organized its first intercollegiate event, ‘Phoenix 2019’, a talent show, with the theme ‘Eclectic, Effervescent, Effulgent’, on August 3 at the college auditorium.


A press release issued by the college stated that Thethem Hangsing, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Kedozolie Nagi, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, hosted the event. The Judges for the event were Dr Kilemsungla, former member of UPSC and former Principal of NCTE, Mengu Suokhrie, actor and singer, and Mele Pucho, Director and Proprietor of Symphony Academy of Music. Altogether 13 colleges participated in the competition.


SP Francis, Managing Director of Model Christian College, said the invocation, while the welcome address was delivered by Dr Luke Rymbai, the Principal of the college. Mochoyia of B.Sc. 3rd Semester, MCC, presented a special number, which was followed by presentation of the Mascot “PHOENIX”.


The contest kicked off with Ropfuvinuo Khezhie of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, with the song ‘Jerusalem’ which was followed by dances, mimicry, piano recital and others.


Prior to the announcement of results, the Judges were given time to give remarks on the competition and its competitors where Mele Pucho remarked that artists “are all like salesmen and that crowd response, creativity and originality need to be taken into account.”


 Mengu Suokhrie encouraged performers to be confident and even shameless on stage. “You have to get into the character,” Suokhrie said. Dr Kilemsungla said “Every talent comes from the Lord and clarity of words is important.”


Arenchenla Walling of Modern College was declared the winner of Phoenix 2019 and walked home with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and a certificate. Phyantsuo N Lotha was declared the First Runner-up, with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, and Hrudalou of Baptist College won the third place and a cash prize of Rs. 5000. Consolation prizes were given to five participants from St. Joseph’s College, Japfii Christian College, Sazolie College, Model Christian College, and Don Bosco College respectively. Vote of thanks was delivered by Vizono Khesoh, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Event Coordinator.
