Mokokchung, January 6 (MExN): The second day of the ongoing MDCA tournament saw two rather one-sided games with Skylark CC and Brotherhood CC comprehensively humbling their opponents in their respective matches played here today.
In the first match, Skylark defeated Rolling Ball CC by a huge margin of 128 runs. Skylark batting first scored 177 runs with contribution from Talikaba (37 runs), Aloto (37 runs), Nihal (32 runs) and Nirben (30 runs). Meren and Wapang took 2 wickets each for the Rolling Ball CC. Chasing the huge target, Rolling Ball were bundled out for just 50 runs with only Meren reaching the double digit figure. Aosashi finished with a figure of 5/5 to help Skylark to a convincing win.
In the second match, Brotherhood defeated Züngamedem by 35 runs. Batting first Brotherhood set a target of 159 runs with Temsulemba contributing 22 runs and Raja, with 19 runs, playing a vital role in knitting vital partnerships in the middle order. Akum, Imkum and Yapang took 2 wickets each for Züngamedem. In the second innings, Züngamedem chasing the target got off to a very slow start and could not change the velocity of their run chase till the end. Some respectable urgency shown by their batsmen towards the dying overs came too little too late. They were bowled out in the last ball of the 20th over. Rongsenyanger and Moalong were the major contributors with 29 runs and 19 runs respectively. Chubameren with 4 wickets and Chubaotang 3 wickets were the pick of the bowlers for Brotherhood.
Tomorrow promises to be a fest for the cricket lovers of Mokokchung when Team Bendangsunep takes on Sovran CC in the second match of the day. It won't be wrong to assume this match fit to be a ‘final before the final.’
